Movement Electronic Music Festival has unveiled the complete lineup for its 2023 edition, featuring more than 115 performers across three days. Techno and house music artists are a major highlight of this year's festival, which will take place over Memorial Day weekend (May 27-29) at Hart Plaza in Detroit.

The festival's headliners include iconic UK dance duo Basement Jaxx (DJ Set), Belgian techno star Charlotte de Witte, and electronic music legends Underworld. Today's announcement also revealed that dance music heavyweight Skrillex, techno pioneer Cybotron, and acclaimed electronic music producer Bonobo (DJ Set) will perform at the festival.

Other notable acts include Detroit techno stalwarts Carl Craig ft. Jon Dixon (live), electronic music heavyweight Kaskade (performing under his underground alias Kaskade Redux), and legendary German techno producer Stephan Bodzin (live). In addition to the headliners, the festival will feature rising stars and underground mainstays in the techno and house music scenes.

Among them are Swedish-born techno producer, DJ, and Drumcode recording artist Ida Engberg, UK house and breakbeat veteran Paul Woolford (performing under his coveted alias Special Request), and minimal techno pioneer Ricardo Villalobos. Iconic dubstep duo Zeds Dead will also perform as Zeds Dead (Altered States) in support of their new label focused on exploring a diverse range of electronic music.

The festival will celebrate Detroit's rich music culture by showcasing some of the city's most prominent DJs, producers, and rising stars in dance music and beyond.

Detroit techno pioneer Eddie Fowlkes, Underground Resistance member James Pennington as Suburban Knight, and legendary electro group Aux88 (live) are just a few of the notable Detroit-based artists on the lineup.

Movement Electronic Music Festival, also known simply as Movement, is an annual electronic music festival held in Detroit, Michigan, USA. It was first launched in 2000 by a group of electronic music enthusiasts who wanted to create a festival that celebrated the city's rich musical history and its contribution to the development of techno music.

Detroit is widely considered to be the birthplace of techno music, with a thriving underground scene that emerged in the 1980s. The city's early techno pioneers, such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, developed a unique sound that combined elements of funk, soul, and electronic music. This sound quickly spread throughout the world, influencing countless artists and shaping the course of electronic music.

Movement was created as a way to showcase this rich musical heritage and to provide a platform for both established and emerging artists in the electronic music scene. The festival has since grown into one of the largest and most respected electronic music events in the world, attracting tens of thousands of music fans from around the globe.

Over the years, Movement has hosted some of the biggest names in electronic music, including Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, and Deadmau5, as well as local Detroit legends like Carl Craig and Moodymann. The festival has also expanded its programming to include other genres of music, such as hip-hop, funk, and soul, in order to showcase the full diversity of Detroit's musical legacy.

Despite its growth, Movement has remained true to its roots and continues to prioritize the music and the culture above all else. The festival is renowned for its unique atmosphere, with a passionate and dedicated community of music fans who come together each year to celebrate the power of electronic music.

Movement Music Festival has a long-standing tradition of featuring diverse and authentic lineups that are purely about the music and culture. The 2023 lineup is no exception, featuring a wide range of electronic music from seasoned veterans to future generations of artists.

Music fans can expect a completely original experience in the birthplace of techno music, as they dance the night away at Hart Plaza on Detroit's riverfront.

Don't forget to stock up on DownBeats earplugs if you're heading to Detroit for Movement!
